Instructional Strategies
The teacher uses various instructional strategies to ensure that all learners develop a deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and build skills to apply and extend knowledge in meaningful ways.
Artifact #1- Playdough
Rationale
When we were working on our Native American unit we used Playdough to learn about native american houses. After looking at several different types of native american houses students were give a handout with several examples of houses, and a jar of Playdough they then sculpted a house of their choice. After completing their sculpture the students told me and their group what they had made and why. For deeper understanding students can make inferences about the lifestyles of the tribes that lived in different types of houses.

Standards
(Utah) U.S. 1 Standard 3.1:
Explore life among the various American Indian nations prior to European exploration of the New World.
Artifact #2-Graphic Organizer
Rationale
Talking about government is sometimes difficult because it can be a lot of information in a short amount of time. One way of combating this is by having students create graphic organizers. This particular graphic organizer was created on the day we were discussing three branches of government, checks and balances, and separation of powers. By organizing the information visually students could quickly see the responsibilities of each branch of government, and the relationship the branches have to each other. By varying my instructional method for this lesson, student had a much easier time grasping a difficult subject.
